Information about James Meredith
All throughout history, there are a number of people that have been able to make very significant contributions to different communities and because of that, they are considered to be some of the most important heroes. A number of the people were able to transform the world through business while others through politics and leadership but in addition, there are others who are human rights activists. An African-American by the name James Meredith is one of these people that is able to transform a lot and he was a civil rights activist. In 1962, James Meredith was able to join the University of Mississippi being the first African-American to be able to achieve this feat. Born in 1933, James Meredith was brought up together with other siblings on a farm and that was the childhood. After attaining a certain age, was able to go to a certain high school that was under the military. After high school, James Meredith was able to attend an all black college and it is after this that he was able to become the first student in the University of Mississippi. James Meredith became heavily involved in politics after being able to achieve his law degree from the University.
After today, James Meredith is recorded to continue with civil rights activist activities and he stays in the Jackson Mississippi region. By living on a farm land together with your family, James Meredith had the chance to be insulated from racism which is a major problem this time. According to history, he first encountered some racism when he was riding on a train that was coming from Chicago and he was together with his brother. The incident involved him being told to move to the back of the train when they reached Memphis Tennessee. At the back of the train were many black people and because of that, they had to go standing up to their destination. The fair treatment of the African-Americans became his priority because of this incident and this considered to be the life-changing experience.
Before being able to go into the University of Mississippi, there are a number of problems that he encountered for example, his admission was revoked the moment the registrar realized that he was an African-American. He protested this decision and because of this, the case proceeded even to the Supreme Court which ended up ruling in his favor. Apart from that, James Meredith has a personal life and he is political activity have been very consistent all throughout the years.
